Another statistic youâll find on the Tumblr âAboutâ page is the number of Tumblr meetups that have been held since the site was first launched. Tumblr users in a particular location can participate in a meetup, a social event where they can connect with other Tumblr users face-to-face. These gatherings may be large or small, and most are held in a restaurant or bar during happy hour on a weekday. Some meetups are organized around popular themes such as Dr. Who or anime. To date, the largest Tumblr meetup took place on June 5, 2011, in Curitiba, Brazil, with almost five hundred RSVPs. When users contact Tumblr about listing a meetup on the site, the service sends them materials that can be used to promote the event, such as stickers, name tags, and even tents. Organizers sometimes create their own meetup blogs.
